The new Volvo range of trucks now provides more power and range while still running on environmentally-friendly biogas

Global heavy vehicle brand Volvo Trucks has announced the launch of a new, stronger gas-powered truck that can run on liquified biogas.

Volvo says the new truck is able to carry out long distance transport tasks while still reducing carbon emissions for operators.

Five years ago, Volvo launched its trucks that can run on liquified biogas, known as the bio-LNG, with the fuel source being produced from many types of organic waste, such as food scraps.

Now, the new truck is four per cent more fuel efficient as a gas-powered truck, with the model getting a new power level of 500hp together with a 10 per cent larger gas tank.

"Biogas is a great complement to electric transports, helping hauliers with their sustainability ambitions and aims towards climate neutral transports," Volvo Trucks gas-powered truck product manager Daniel Bergstrand says.

The gas-powered trucks in the Volvo FH and FM are getting a new power level of 500 hp, joining the previous 420 and 460 hp engines.

The gas engines also get major technical upgrades that makes them up to four per cent more fuel efficient, which, together with a new 10 per cent larger gas tank, contributes to a longer range.
