West Gate Tunnel
Dual road tunnel and elevated motorway project. Late-stage civil, fit-out, and commissioning packages remain live.

West Gate Tunnel provides an alternative freight and commuter route to the West Gate Bridge, removing heavy-truck pressure from inner-west residential streets and expanding capacity into the Port of Melbourne precinct. The project is delivered through a Transurban-led partnership with the Victorian Government.
Scope comprises a widened West Gate Freeway west of the West Gate Bridge, twin tunnels (2.8km and 4.0km) under Yarraville, an elevated motorway over Footscray Road, a new Footscray Road viaduct, and connections into the CityLink network at Dynon Road. The project is an integrated road, ramp and signalling package with electronic tolling across the network.
The project has navigated complex contaminated soil disposal issues earlier in construction, with resolution allowing tunnel and surface works to progress. Commissioning activities are advanced, with opening targeted in 2026.
Equipment demand through the remaining commissioning window is short-cycle civil, fit-out, electrical and road finishing work. Sub-tier operators with specialty kit (pavement, linemarking, ITS, landscaping) can target the finishing packages through to opening.
Commissioning-stage work is shorter-cycle and suits Fast or Grow segment finance against near-term revenue.
